Conclusion

The time-course of the spatial distribution of pressure waves can be calculated using the C code provided on slide 4 for a sphere of uniform energy deposition. The program can be adapted to simulate any spatial pattern of energy deposition, such as the flat-field and Gaussian-profile beams illustrated in this report.

The sharp edge boundary of the flat-field beam elicits tensile pressure waves. Such waves are not apparent in the Gaussian-profile beam pressure waves where there are not sharp edges.
