One patient example: fluorescence vs concentration for normal and tumor

Table of Contents | PREVIOUS PAGE | NEXT PAGE

As an example, consider the spectra from one patient and how consideration of the optics affects the final answer concerning photosensitizer concentration:

(LEFT IMAGE) The raw fluorescence is shown on the left. The fluorescence of the normal (green) and tumor (red) sites are not too dissimilar and quite variable.
(MIDDLE IMAGE) After correcting for the tissue optics factor chi (X [1/cm]) and the collection factor f, the normal and tumor sites are very well separated. Consideration of the other parameters will change the scale of the figure but not the relative separation of the normal and tumor fluorescence.
(RIGHT IMAGE) The final concentration is shown on log scale.
