Absorption
This is a graph of the molar extinction coefficient of
4-Dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene dissolved in benzene.
It was measured by R. A. Fuh on summer, 97
[H. Du, R. A. Fuh, J. Li,
A. Corkan, J. S. Lindsey, "PhotochemCAD: A computer-aided design and
research tool in photochemistry," Photochemistry and
Photobiology, 68, 141-142, 1998]. 4-Dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene has a molar
extinction coefficient of 27,000 M-1cm-1
at 432.25 nm [P. P. Shorygin and T. M. Ivanova, "On the simultaneous observation of the raman spectrum and fluorescence," Soviet Phys. Doklady, 3, 764-767, 1958].
The fluorescence yield also has been reported to be 0.53 in benzene, 0.14 in pentane, 0.008 in methylene chloride, and 0.002 in dimethylformamide [H. Gruen and H. Grner, "Trans cis photoisomerization, fluorescence, and relaxation phenomena of trans-4-Nitro-4'-(dialkylamino)stilbenes and analogues with a nonrotatable amino group.," J. Phys. Chem., 93, 7144-7152, 1989].

Fluorescence
This is the fluorescence emission spectrum of
4-Dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene dissolved in benzene.
The spectrum was taken by R. A. Fuh on summer, 97 using
an excitation wavelength of 400 nm [H. Du, R. A. Fuh, J. Li, A. Corkan, J. S. Lindsey,
"PhotochemCAD: A computer-aided design and research tool in
photochemistry," Photochemistry and Photobiology, 68,
141-142, 1998]. The quantum yield is 0.70
[P. P. Shorygin and T. M. Ivanova, "On the simultaneous observation of the raman spectrum and fluorescence," Soviet Phys. Doklady, 3, 764-767, 1958].
